Reserve your room now

We now have the link for you to reserve your room at the Red Rock Resort. You can click and book online (password: design) or you can call the hotel at (866) 767-7773 and tell the booking agent you’re attending the Society for News Design Workshop.

We highly recommend that you book your room early.

But, please read the accompanying sidebar for all the details on the hotel rate, including information about the deposit, so there are no surprises.

Why?

One of the many advantages of meeting with APME is that between the two groups we will virtually own the meeting space and the hotel.

The downside of that is that we might be tight on hotel rooms. The hotel has 818 guest rooms. On our peak night (Monday), SND has a room block of 400 set aside. APME has the same room block (400) that night. If we both hit our room block, we’ll have 800 of the 818 total rooms. There’s literally no more rooms for us to take.

So, it’s smart to book early.

To avoid last minute heartaches and to induce those of you who know you are coming to book early, we’re offering a registration raffle. For the first 100 people to sign up for their hotel, we will offer 5 raffle prizes (not available for SND board members, staff or workshop speakers):

  • For the first 10 to register, we’ll draw one name randomly and that person will get the 100 package: a $100 per night room rate (up to five nights), a $100 spa gift certificate and a $100 dining gift certificate good at any of Red Rock’s 10 restaurants. That’s worth $440-600, depending on how many nights you stay. THIS PRIZE CLOSED. DRAWING HELD APRIL 8.

  • For the next 15 people to register, one randomly selected guest will receive a $150 Red Rock Spa gift certificate. THIS PRIZE CLOSED. DRAWING HELD APRIL 8.

  • For the next 25 people to register, one randomly selected guest will receive a $100 certificate good at any of Red Rock’s 10 restaurants.

  • For the next 25 people to register, one randomly selected guest will receive a $75 certificate good at any of Red Rock’s 10 restaurants.

  • For the next 25 people to register, one randomly selected guest will receive a $50 certificate good at any of Red Rock’s 10 restaurants.

Drawings will be held as the appropriate reservation thresholds are reached. Names will be supplied by the hotel based on day and time reservation is recorded. The drawings will be held either here at the home offices of SNDVegas (the Las Vegas Sun) or at a nearby bar. Results will be announced on the SNDVegas.com blog and winners will be notified directly. Prizes will be distributed when winners arrive at Red Rock for the workshop. If a winner cancels and doesn’t show up for the workshop, we will return to the original list of names and draw a new winner.

Remember: We’re meeting off cycle in 2008. Our opening day is Sunday, September 7 and our closing day is Tuesday, September 9. Also remember that your SND badge gets you into any of the Associated Press Managing Editor or Associated Press Photo Managers sessions (except luncheons and dinners). They have a full slate of sessions on Wednesday, September 10 so you might want to consider staying an extra day.

The Program

SNDVegas is the best bargain for your training money. We will have nearly three days of sessions with some of the best minds in the business. We’ve posted a list of speakers — about 85% complete — and will start adding session titles shortly. Over the next couple of months we’ll post detailed session descriptions, bios and the preliminary schedule. Watch this space for updates.

And for those looking for details about the SNDVegas version of “The Intern,” we’ll have applications and rules available by April 15.
